Bubble gum lab.pdf
In this lab, students will learn the steps of the scientific method through a fun activity that compares variables between two types of bubble gum. Students will be asked to hypothesize, collect and organize data, use scientific measurement, analyze their results, and compare/contrast lab group outcomes with their peers.

Gummy Bear Lab.pdf
The purpose of this lab is to investigate the movement of water into and out of a polymer. Gummy bears are made of gelatin and sugar. Gelatin is a polymer that forms large three-dimensional matrices which give structural support to jellies and jams, and lots of other items you use each day! All about GELATIN!

Polymers consist of long chain molecules with repeating groups that are largely covalently bonded. Common elements within the chain backbone include C, O, N, and Si. The bonds within the backbone are all covalent, so the molecular chains are extremely strong. Chains are usually bonded to each other, however, by means of comparatively weak secondary bonds. This means that it is generally easy for the chains to slide by one another when forces are applied and the strength is thus relatively low.

What are Polymers?

This is a diagram of polyethylene, the simplest polymer structure. Fun Fact: One of the most famous silicon-based polymers is Silly Putty.
